Becoming a Freemason is straightforward. You don’t need to be invited.
Why not call and book in to join us for dinner at one of our open evenings or meet us over a coffee?
Every Freemason has his own reason for joining. For many, Freemasonry acts as a ‘constant’, providing a unique combination of friendship, belonging and structure. Goulburn Menturia Lodge is aligned with Universities, Colleges and students in Bolton including the wider East Lancashire area. Goulburn Menturia Lodge is made up by members from many professions, trades, religions, ethnic backgrounds and ages. Many Freemasons have made valuable lifelong friendships but above all, Freemasonry is simply to be enjoyed.
Members of Goulburn Menturia Lodge explore moral lessons and self-knowledge through participation in a progression of allegorical plays which are performed within the Lodge.
This offers members an opportunity to know oneself, reinforce thoughtfulness for others, kindness in the community, honesty in business, courtesy in society and fairness in all things. It also teaches and practises concern for people, care for the less fortunate and help for those in need.
Some people join the lodge and enjoy the fellowship, others like the ceremonies or plays and symbolism. Some enjoy the rewards of giving and helping others through the work of charities. Regardless, the opportunity exists to have a richer life experience, to gain new perspectives about the world. If you’ve come this far and still want to pursue membership of Masonry, then feel free to contact us.
The following requirements must be met before someone can even be considered an applicant for membership:
Applicants for membership must be able to demonstrable good character.
There are no requirements for what form this belief takes. However, discussion of religion or politics is strictly forbidden inside the lodge. Masonry exists throughout the world, and welcomes members of all faiths.
If you would like to apply to be an applicant you must have two existing masons who are members of Goulburn Menturia No.3478 to support your application. These members will propose and second you. Many applicants approach our lodge who don’t know anyone who is a Mason, and that’s perfectly acceptable. If you’re interested in becoming a Mason, we’ll take the time to get to know you, and you can get to know us by attending one of our open functions.
Applicants must be men of mature age and strict morals. Student applicants must be aged 18 and over, none students must be age 21 and over.
Successful candidates for Freemasonry will be scheduled for initiation to become a 1st Degree Freemason. Each member will be required to pay the Lodge subscriptions. As a member you are also expected to have time to attend our meetings without an adverse impact on your family.
